About the Aoudad:
The aoudad sheep are originally from the rugged mountainous areas of North Africa but have been introduced to different parts of the world during the last century. The aoudad, also known as the Barbary sheep, was brought to the American Southwest in the 1940s flourished there ever since. These sheep were also introduced to parts of Spain, Hawaii, and Mexico and can be found wild there to this day. These sheep also have a very unique ability to procure all the water they need for survival from just their food, and can live completely normally without drinking liquid water. However, they will drink liquid water if it is present in their environment. Aoudad sheep are most active during the early mornings and evenings when it is cooler, and tend to bed down during the afternoons to conserve water during the hottest part of the day. These sheep are very skittish and will often flee at the first sign of danger, making hunting a fun and stealthy challenge. You can expect to take home a high-quality trophy with horns ranging between 30” and 32”.

Free Range Aoudad Hunting Area and Terrain:
These free-range aoudad hunts take place in the big open country of West Texas. Here they have wide canyons, mountains, and red dirt roads stretching for miles. You can expect the occasional brush cover of cactus, yucca, and mesquite trees. The ranches this outfitter hunts on are all low fences and vary between 6,000 - 10,000 acres. Because the terrain here is so open, the average shot taken is about 200 yards, but shots up to 600 yards are possible if you choose to take a long-range approach. With spotting and stalking, you can cut that distance down to below 100 yards.
Aoudad Hunting Seasons in Texas:

Day 4 Hunt a.m. - Depart noon
Depending on the time of year, and other various factors. These hunts can be conducted in a multitude of ways. Blind hunting, safari style, or spot and stalk. The specific method in which the hunt will happen will not be determined until the week or potentially the day of your hunt. With that being said, the following is a general hunt description, any in-depth questions or preferences can be discussed at the time of booking.
You’ll arrive at the lodge in the afternoon on the first day, where you can get settled in and get your things put away in your room. Once you get squared away, you will be taken to a local store to purchase a Texas hunting license if you did not already get one beforehand. After this, you can head to the range and ensure your rifle is still zeroed after your travel. If everything checks out, it's time to start hunting! You and your guide will depart from the lodge to the game ranch utilized at mid-afternoon.
Once it begins to get dark, you’ll head out of the game ranch and back to the main lodge. Dinner will be served upon arrival, where you and your guide can discuss the next day’s plans and strategy. After dinner, you’ll have a few hours to yourself where you can hang out, work, or catch up back home before getting to bed.
The next morning, you can expect to wake up early morning and grab a coffee, muffin, or another small breakfast snack to eat before heading out on the morning hunt. You’ll leave the lodge and get to the game ranches just as the sun is coming up. The morning hunting will stop when it begins to get hot, or you and your guide decide to let the ranch rest for the middle of the day when the animals would usually be laid up resting. You and your guide will head back to the lodge and have brunch. Then the afternoon is yours to do with as you please before you get back out midafternoon again, to begin the evening hunt!
