The Ronda Ibex
The Ronda ibex is endemic to the hills and mountains of southern Spain and is usually one of the most affordable of the Spanish ibex species. It is a highly sought-after trophy and is a member of the Spanish Ibex Grand Slam. The Ronda ibex is the smallest of the Spanish ibex species and carries the smallest horns. The coat is a uniform light brown color. The horns usually grow upward in a V-shape while turning backward with a spiral turn of 90 degrees. The horn thickness is constant for ½ of the length and then decreases gradually to the tips.
The Ronda Ibex Hunting Area
Rhonda Ibex are found in the Ronda mountains of extreme southern Spain. This hunt takes place in some rugged terrain and being in good shape will be beneficial when hunting for a large trophy Ronda ibex.
The hunting areas cover a vast 99,000-acre area made up of mountains, cliffs, and deep creeks, but there is a good grid of dirt roads over most of the hunting grounds. A vehicle will give you convenient access to the prime hunting areas.
The Ronda Ibex Hunting Methods
Hunting Ronda ibex is a typical mountain hunt where the hunter covers ground by vehicle and on foot. The vehicle will provide access to various areas where you will get out of the vehicle and glass for a trophy ibex. A typical hunting day will begin by driving up into the mountains and then getting out and glassing for Ronda ibex. The terrain is very mountainous, and this hunt will require some walking and even more glassing. Once a trophy Ronda ibex is located, a plan will be made to get you into a shooting position for your ibex on foot. Due to the mountainous terrain, you can expect to take shots of up to 300 yards.
Hunting Ronda Ibex can be challenging, especially when looking for a gold medal-level Ibex. To hunt for trophies, you must be prepared and ready to walk in the mountains for significant distances. However, the hunting area is very diverse, and the outfitter can accommodate hunters who are not in good physical condition as long as they have good shooting skills.
The Ronda Ibex Hunting Hotels
During your hunt for a Rhonda ibex, you will stay in one of two small 4-star hotels that are set in spectacular settings near the hunting areas. The lodges have permanent power and all bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms. Internet and cell phone service are available at these hotels.
Guests are accommodated in luxury rooms. The lodge features a pool and has excellent food service. This is a great accommodation to take your spouse with you while on a Spanish ibex hunt.
Getting There
Hunters will fly into Madrid and be driven directly to the lodge (a 4.5-hour drive).
