This hunt for Punjab Urial occurs in the Punjab region of Pakistan. This is one of the easiest Urial hunts that Pakistan has to offer, as it has the least amount of rough terrain you need to cover and the Punjab Urial population is very robust!

This hunt is like stepping back over a century in time. The areas are remote, the terrain is rugged, and the scenery is breathtaking. The people live in somewhat primitive conditions. Weather can delay travel. This hunt will be a true adventure that you will remember and cherish for many years!

The outfitter is highly experienced with many years of successful hunts under his belt. The expected success rate on this hunt is 100%.

The Punjab Urial Hunting Area / Terrain

Punjab Urials are found most frequently at elevations ranging from 500m (1,500 ft) to 700m (2,300 ft) above sea level. Punjab Urials are often found at lower elevations than other subspecies of Urial, making hunting them easier and a less demanding hunt than other species.

The terrain is much easier than the steep mountainous terrain encountered when hunting Blue Sheep or Himalayan Ibex.

There are an abundance of Punjab Urials found here, and the outfitter is in constant contact with the locals who alert him to recent sightings of giant trophies. Expect to see lots of Punjab Urials in the mountains here as well as lots of plains animals!

The Punjab Urial

Punjab Urial  (Ovis vignei punjabiensis) is a goat found only in the hills of the Punjab area of Pakistan. The Punjab Urial is redder than other Urial subspecies. It is smaller than the Afghan Urial, with males weighing just up to 100lbs.

The average size of Punjab Urials harvested in these areas is around 25” and upwards. Bigger Urials (30”+) are rare and some exceptional trophies are taken each year.

The Punjab Urial Outfitter

This outfitter has spent his entire life hunting in these regions, outfitting in Pakistan, and has a thorough understanding of everything, including:

  • Document Preparation
  • Bidding for the best hunting areas
  • Spending time in the field year-round
  • Having contacts in many villages
  • Speaking the local dialects
  • Glowing references

Punjab Urial Travel

All areas that will be used for hunting are safe areas and are not in regions with insurgent activity. Over a period of many years, the outfitter has conducted these hunts without any safety issues.

Arrival is at Islamabad International Airport (also known as Benazir International) International flights normally arrive after midnight. You will meet your representative at the international arrivals area where you will proceed with your firearms clearance.

Once firearms are cleared, you will begin your drive to the guest house where the outfitter has decided to start your hunt from. There are three different guest houses the outfitter uses, ranging from 4 hours to 5 hours from the airport. Once you arrive, you’ll have time to settle in, have an evening meal, and get ready for your day of hunting tomorrow.

The next morning, after breakfast, you will begin hunting Punjab Urial in the surrounding hills. The terrain is the easiest out of any of the other Urial subspecies hunts, as they prefer lower elevations and there is a robust population of them. You will hike and glass each day for your trophy Urial. Once a suitable trophy is spotted, you will execute a stalk to get into shooting range.

The hike back down to the village will commence once your Punjab Urial has been taken and skinned.

The Punjab Urial Hunting Accommodations

There are three different villages from where the outfitter conducts these Urial hunts. Depending on the amount of trophies the locals spot, the outfitter will pick which place he thinks will be best to hunt from. In two of the guest houses, the accommodations are very similar to the pictures below. They are comfortable and a bit more plush. The other one is a very basic guest house. These Urial hunts are not a luxury hunt but rather a hunt that is conducted from remote villages lacking many modern amenities.

Due to the ease of this hunt compared with other Urial subspecies, hunters with mobility issues can still have a successful hunt and harvest a Punjab Urial.

For the hunter wanting the biggest trophy, adding an extra day or two at $600 / day and being in mountain shape will up your odds of coming away with that absolute monster of the mountains, although it is common for hunters to spot a giant trophy even on the first day due to the dense population of these Urials in the outfitter's areas!
