This is a hunt for Blue Sheep in the mountains of northern Pakistan. This is a true mountain hunt and Blue Sheep hunts will involve a combination of riding Yaks and hiking up into the mountains on foot, using porters to carry the camping gear and supplies. Accommodations will be basic, and you will either stay in shepherd's huts or tents with sleeping bags.

This hunt is like stepping back in time over 100 years. The areas are remote, the terrain is rugged. The people live in somewhat primitive conditions. Weather can delay travel. This hunt will be a true adventure that you will remember and cherish for many years!

The outfitter is highly experienced with many years of successful hunts under his belt. The expected success rate on this hunt is 100%.

The Blue Sheep Hunting Area / Terrain

Blue Sheep are found most frequently at elevations ranging from 3,000 m (9,800 ft) to 5,300 m (17,400 ft) above sea level. Depending on the area selected for your hunt, you may be walking in snow, up steep hills, or across glaciers. Long walks in steep terrain are the rule rather than the exception.

This is a very difficult hunt and will require you to be in Mountain shape. Do not attempt this hunt if you are out of shape or have mobility issues. You do not want to get sick or injured in high remote areas!

The outfitter has some remote areas where bigger Blue Sheep are found. To access these areas, the hunter needs to be in excellent shape, and adding a hunting day or two will give you more time to search for that special trophy of a lifetime.

The Blue Sheep

Blue Sheep (Pseudois naaur), also called the Bharal, is a Caprinae found in Pakistan in the arid and rocky mountains of Karakoram, Hindukush, and the Himalayas of Gilgit-Baltistan. The males are slightly larger than the females and have wide horns that look like an upside-down mustache. Bharal have a dense slate-grey coat that sometimes has a bluish sheen. Horms can grow up to 31” in length.

The average size of Blue Sheep shot in these areas is 24”-26”. Occasionally, hunters get lucky and shoot a trophy from 29” – 31”.

The Blue Sheep Hunting Season

The Blue Sheep hunting season opens the 1st week in November and runs until April 25.

THE BEST TIMES TO HUNT BLUE SHEEP

The beginning of the season can be good because the animals have not been pressured.

The Blue Sheep rut is from late November until the middle of January.

February is difficult because it is windy, and the animals hide from the wind.

The end of March is good because of the new green growth which brings the ibex out into the open to feed.

By the middle of April, the Blue Sheep begin to lose some of their hair and beautiful coloration.

Recommended Firearms and Shooting Distances

A 300 Win Mag or a similar caliber with 40 bullets is recommended. Hunters should be prepared to take shots from 250 to 800 meters.

Packing List

A detailed packing list will be provided to the client after the hunt is booked.

Trophy Handling

The outfitter will dry salt the skin and apply hydrogen peroxide to the skull. They will arrange delivery to the shipping agent who will send the trophies to the client by air. The trophies will typically be delivered within 1-2 days after the hunt.
