About the Blackbuck:

The Blackbuck, also called the Indian Antelope, is an animal native to India and Nepal. It was introduced to Texas in the early 1900s where it has flourished in the Hill Country ever since. They are diurnal and active throughout the majority of the day but do tend to become a little less active around the hottest parts of the day. Males are characterized by their two-tone colorations: white underbelly and inside of the legs, with a striking dark brown to black color on the outside of their legs, upper neck, and back. Males also have long horns that can spiral up to four times. Males weigh up to 125 pounds, while females are lighter at 60 pounds on average. Females do not have the same dark colors as males and instead sport a light brown coat, and are usually hornless. You can expect your Blackbuck to have horns between 18” - 22” (high fence and free-range). Guaranteed 22”+ blackbucks are available upon special request. Inquire for more details about these as this outfitter has limited availability.

Blackbuck Hunting Area and Terrain:

This outfitter has multiple different hunting locations for Blackbuck, all of which are exclusively used by them for hunting. Each is within a 10-minute to 1-hour drive from the main lodge. These areas all consist of a similar type of rocky, hilly terrain. You can expect some foliage cover of cedar brush and cacti, with lots of open areas. These open areas make for great clear shots, and you can expect the average shot to be between 150 and 200 yards because of this open environment. These areas are up to 6,000 acres. They are all high-fenced. There are also free-range options available, please inquire about these specialty alternatives if needed.

Blackbuck Hunting Seasons in Texas:

Blackbuck is horned and not antlered animals, so they never shed their horns at any point throughout the year. Because of this, they are able to be hunted year-round with good quality potential trophies. However, males molt in spring, in which their coats become noticeably lighter in color. The outfitter recommends coming anytime between January and May for the best chance at bagging the darkest trophy possible.

A Typical Day Hunting Blackbuck:

Day 4      Hunt a.m. - Depart noon

Depending on the time of year, and other various factors. These hunts can be conducted in a multitude of ways. Blind hunting, safari style, or spot and stalk. The specific method in which the hunt will happen will not be determined until the week or potentially the day of your hunt. With that being said, the following is a general hunt description, any in-depth questions or preferences can be discussed at the time of booking.

You’ll arrive at the lodge in the afternoon on the first day, where you can get settled in and get your things put away in your room. Once you get squared away, you will be taken to a local store to purchase a Texas hunting license if you did not already get one beforehand. After this, you can head to the range and ensure your rifle is still zeroed after your travel. If everything checks out, it's time to start hunting! You and your guide will depart from the lodge to the game ranch utilized at mid-afternoon.

Once it begins to get dark, you’ll head out of the game ranch and back to the main lodge. Dinner will be served upon arrival, where you and your guide can discuss the next day’s plans and strategy. After dinner, you’ll have a few hours to yourself where you can hang out, work, or catch up back home before getting to bed.

The next morning, you can expect to wake up early morning and grab a coffee, muffin, or another small breakfast snack to eat before heading out on the morning hunt. You’ll leave the lodge and get to the game ranches just as the sun is coming up. The morning hunting will stop when it begins to get hot, or you and your guide decide to let the ranch rest for the middle of the day when the animals would usually be laid up resting.  You and your guide will head back to the lodge and have brunch. Then the afternoon is yours to do with as you please before you get back out midafternoon again, to begin the evening hunt!
