Come on a hunt down in the Texas hill country for free-range whitetail bucks! There’s no size limit on these deer, so you can take the biggest one you lay eyes on! You’ll be hunting with an outfitter who has more than two decades of experience in the Texas hunting industry, and you’ll stay at a 2-star lodge close to all the hunting concessions.

About the Whitetail Deer:

The whitetail deer is native to North, Central, and South America. Within the US, the whitetail tends to reside east of the Rocky Mountains. Texas has the highest population of whitetails in the US, clocking in with an estimated 5.3 million deer, making this hunt the perfect location to score your whitetail trophy! The whitetail deer is also a skittish animal and is extremely wary of humans. Often if spotted, the deer will blow and flee. This blow puts other nearby deer on alert, and the flash of their white tails serves as a signal of danger to other deer in the area.

Whitetail deer have been hunted for nearly as long as there have been human populations in the Americas. Records going back to ancient times show whitetails being hunted for both sport and their commodities such as hides and meat. Whitetail deer were nearly hunted to extinction during the late 1800s, but as of 2017, their numbers have rebounded back to pre-colonization levels. Deer also are prone to overpopulation due to human-caused declines in predatory animal populations. Thus, hunting is often used as a conservation method to help control deer populations across North America. In your harvest, you can expect your trophy buck to score between 110” and 125”.

Whitetail Deer Hunting Area and Terrain:

All the ranches used for this free-range deer hunt are exclusively hunted by this outfitter. The ranches will all be low or no fence and range in size up to 6,000 acres. You can expect some light brush cover of cedar and cactus on them. Since they are a rocky and somewhat hilly terrain, your guide will have an offroad 4x4 vehicle to help navigate the trails. These ranches also vary from ten minutes to one hour away from the main lodge where you will be staying.

Whitetail Deer Hunting Seasons in Texas:

Texas imposes a hunting season from October to December for whitetail deer hunting. For a shot at getting the biggest and best bucks, however, the outfitter recommends coming later in the season between the months of November through December.

About the Outfitter:

A Typical Day Hunting Whitetail Deer:

These hunts run from noon on the day of your arrival until noon on the day of your departure, with two full hunting days in between. This makes up 3 full days of hunting.

Day 1      Arrive at noon - Hunt p.m.

Day 2-3   Full Hunting Days

Day 4      Hunt a.m. - Depart noon

Depending on the time of year, and other various factors. These hunts can be conducted in a multitude of ways. Blind hunting, safari style, or spot and stalk. The specific method in which the hunt will happen will not be determined until the week or potentially the day of your hunt. With that being said, the following is a general hunt description, any in-depth questions or preferences can be discussed at the time of booking.

You’ll arrive at the lodge in the afternoon on the first day, where you can get settled in and get your things put away in your room. Once you get squared away, you will be taken to a local store to purchase a Texas hunting license if you did not already get one beforehand. After this, you can head to the range and ensure your rifle is still zeroed after your travel. If everything checks out, it's time to start hunting! You and your guide will depart from the lodge to the game ranch utilized at mid-afternoon.

Once it begins to get dark, you’ll head out of the game ranch and back to the main lodge. Dinner will be served upon arrival, where you and your guide can discuss the next day’s plans and strategy. After dinner, you’ll have a few hours to yourself where you can hang out, work, or catch up back home before getting to bed.

The next morning, you can expect to wake up early morning and grab a coffee, muffin, or another small breakfast snack to eat before heading out on the morning hunt. You’ll leave the lodge and get to the game ranches just as the sun is coming up. The morning hunting will stop when it begins to get hot, or you and your guide decide to let the ranch rest for the middle of the day when the animals would usually be laid up resting.  You and your guide will head back to the lodge and have brunch. Then the afternoon is yours to do with as you please before you get back out midafternoon again, to begin the evening hunt!

Other Available Animals:

This outfitter has many other unique species on the ranches he utilizes. Check the price sheet below to see the list of animals and the seasons they are available.

Once there, it will be skinned and tagged. If you are utilizing the taxidermist the outfitter uses, it will be brought there for mounting. If not, the antlers and cape will be transferred to The Wildlife Gallery in Ingram for processing before shipment to your taxidermist of choice.
