About the Aoudad:
The Aoudad Sheep, also known as the Barbary Sheep, is native to the rugged mountains of North Africa. However, these sheep were introduced in herds to the American Southwest in the 1940s and have flourished there ever since. They are also found wild in parts of Spain, Hawaii, and parts of Mexico through human-introduced populations. These sheep are very unique, being one of the very few other species that can obtain all the water they need from their food with no need to drink liquid water, however, they will drink it if it is present. They are very active in the early mornings and late evenings and bed down during the heat of the day to conserve water. These sheep are very skittish and will flee at the first sign of danger, making hunting them a fun and stealthy challenge. You can expect to take home a trophy with horns ranging between 30” and 34”. A guaranteed 35”+ upgrade is available, contact us for pricing on these. If you would instead like a unique-looking horn or even a broken horn, this can be arranged and new pricing can be discussed with the booking agent and outfitter.
Aoudad Hunting Area and Terrain:
This hunt utilizes a number of different ranches which mostly consist of rocky, hilly terrain. There are often lots of open areas with some cactus and cedar brush scattered throughout. Because it is a very open environment, the average shot is taken between 150 to 200 yards. The main lodge is not on location for these sheep hunts and is anywhere between a 10-minute and one-hour drive away from them depending on which is used. These sheep ranches vary between 100 and 6,000 acres. Thehigh-fence fenceceence ranches. There are free-range options available, please inquire about these specialty alternatives with the booking agent if needed.

The specific method in which the hunt will happen will not be determined until the week or potentially the day of your hunt. With that being said, the following is a general hunt description, any in-depth questions or preferences can be discussed at the time of booking.
You’ll arrive at the lodge in the afternoon on the first day, where you can get settled in and get your things put away in your room. Once you get squared away, you will be taken to a local store to purchase a Texas hunting license if you did not already get one beforehand. After this, you can head to the range and ensure your rifle is still zeroed after your travel. If everything checks out, it's time to start hunting! You and your guide will depart from the lodge to the game ranch utilized at mid-afternoon.
Once it begins to get dark, you’ll head out of the game ranch and back to the main lodge. Dinner will be served upon arrival, where you and your guide can discuss the next day’s plans and strategy. After dinner, you’ll have a few hours to yourself where you can hang out, work, or catch up back home before getting to bed.
The next morning, you can expect to wake up early morning and grab a coffee, muffin, or another small breakfast snack to eat before heading out on the morning hunt. You’ll leave the lodge and get to the game ranches just as the sun is coming up. The morning hunting will stop when it begins to get hot, or you and your guide decide to let the ranch rest for the middle of the day when the animals would usually be laid up resting. You and your guide will head back to the lodge and have brunch. Then the afternoon is yours to do with as you please before you get back out midafternoon again, to begin the evening hunt!
